'Orchids WERE a Scream, 2022 A HUGE SUCCESS!

   The ninth Eastern Iowa Orchid Show and Sale just concluded on 10/23/22 with over 450 blooming orchids displayed by regional orchid clubs and individuals from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Minnesota. This was held at the Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge 251 Hall and was the largest regional show ever! The Show Trophy for best exhibit and the People’s Choice Award for favorite display both went to the Eastern Iowa Orchid Society Exhibit ‘Orchid Are A Scream Twenty-Twenty Boo!’ the Illinois Orchid Society ‘Illinois Scare ’Em!’ was a close second (nine votes shy). Each of these two exhibits were awarded a Silver Certificate for excellence by the American Orchid Society judges. Regional vendors nearly sold out. The ‘Grand Screamer’ (best orchid in the show) went to a Bulbophyllum cocoinumin the Eastern Iowa display and the ‘Reserve Grand Screamer’ (second best orchid) went to Gomesa radicans in the Minnesota display. The Spooktacular Award for the best thematic display went to Orchid Growers Guild of Madison, Wisconsin. A total of 12 AOS national awards were given by the American Orchid Society Judges Next year's show will again have a Halloween theme Oct. 2023, at the same location
