About us: Contact us:

The Eastern Iowa Orchid Society (EIOS), formerly the Iowa City Orchid Society, has been meeting since January 1991. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and an affiliate of the American Orchid Society. We are a small group of 45+ members. Members range  from 20 to 80+ years of age and come from all walks of life. Our members live in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and the surrounding communities including some from Des Moines and the Quad Cities. Some members have a few orchids and others have hundreds of orchids. Some have been growing orchids for only a few months and others for years. Many grow orchids on their windowsills or under lights, and a few have greenhouses. Some specialize in growing certain types of orchids. We all have one thing in common - we enjoy orchids and want to learn more about growing them and getting them to bloom. Our club is very informal and friendly. We welcome any and all orchid ‘lovers!’

CURRENTLY ALL IN PERSON CLUB ACTIVITIES ARE ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THIS WEBSITE FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

We normally meet the first Thursday of the month, September through December and February through June at the Shueyville United Methodist Church, Shueyville, Iowa. Our meetings begin with social time at 6:30 pm, followed by the official meeting at 7:00 pm. During the social hour, members bring in their blooming plants to show. Our meetings feature educational presentations on various types of orchids, different methods of growing orchids, and conservation of native orchids. Sometimes we have special guest speakers who bring plants for sale. We also take field trips to find orchids in ‘the wild’. Refreshments are served. One does not need to be a member to attend.

MEMBERSHIP:  If you decide to join the society, dues are $20 per year for individuals, $30 per year for couples, payable on a calendar year basis. During the holiday season, we have a party at which each member in attendance receives a gift blooming orchid. This year the club arranged a group order for plants and distributed the book 'Orchids and their Culture to members in leu of the holiday party.

Anyone interested in joining the club should email mistercoghill@hotmail.com or  niledusdieker@gmail.com

DONATIONS: Any donations to the club are fully tax deductible and will be used to further our educational mission about how to grow  and appreciate orchids. This mission is not only for our club members but also the general public through speaking activities and exhibiting orchids at local and regional venues. Receipts for donations will be provided.
